This amigurumi apple is stuffed with cinnamon sticks, whole cloves, whole allspice, and bits of crystallized ginger. It's a magic for good luck and prosperity. I used PlanetJune's amigurumi apple pattern, with one addition.

This crochet apple purse...well I don't know what to do with it, exactly, but the pattern was right there and so cute. I used Pattern Paradise's back to school apple purse pattern; the leaf from here is what I added to the amigurumi apple.

I made both of these as gifts for a friend who perhaps does not wish to be publicly named. It's funny 'cause they work in elementary education :D

Today, I've finished up two cat blankets, both of which turned out to be the desired finished size once I'd finished the current row*. I've steam blocked one (and let it dry), and got halfway through setting up the second one for blocking before I got interrupted.

What this means is that I'm in the market for a new project. I'm thinking about this rather cute urchin (free pattern at ravelry), but I'm not sure what I'd do with it once I'd made it. I've downloaded the pattern, and the same artist's tubular coral pattern, and I'll see if inspiration strikes. I've a vague idea that I might see if I can make it into a pin cushion, given I've got some bits and pieces for filling pincushions, and then haven't done anything with them!

*once they are nearly done, I measure, put them in the traveling craft basket, do a row or two, repeat. So I often have more than one travelling with me, because I'm often swapping between projects.

This pendant took about an hour and a half to complete. It's purple crochet thread in a granny square, with seven colors of seed beads on eyepins making a sort of fringe, and a crocheted cord. It turned out all right, though I kind of started out intending to make earrings and not a pendant.

(The other thing in the top pic is not crochet and I need to make a better one anyway.)

A Current project, thanks and another question

Firstly, thanks for the answers to my questions about how big a skein was. I'm really pleased with the scrap afghan project which is almost finished - I hope to post a picture of the finished blanket later this week (or more likely next weekend) - I'm at the sewing together stage and then all that remains is the final border. It's been a challenge but fun.

I needed something to keep me occupied during an evening away from home and so I tried a cowl - my first ever. I've used Wendy Celtic Tweed effect Chunky yarn (shade 2767) which is like marroons and browns, crocheted with a 10mm hook. It was quick and easy bar one slight problem - hence my question. I'm intending making at least one more cowl and I'd like to see how to get it 'right'.

Clicking on the picture links to a larger picture of the same. The pattern starts with a large number of chains which are then slip stitched together and then continues in circles with no turning. Now my problem arose because I ended up with a twist in the initial change, that despite undoing and starting over, I didn't seem to be able to join up without getting another one in there.

Is there something obvious that I'm missing in joining without ending up with a twist? My other thought was to maybe turn at the end of the chains and go back along making my first row (which would make it easier to avoid the twist I think) and then joining and continuing in circles and when I've finished weaving the end of the chains in to close the lower gap, but I'm not sure that will work either.

The Pattern came from the Crochet in Color blog and was called Accidental Cowl.

I have a friend who collects pigs, and has a pig-themed kitchen, so I've been planning on making her a little pig for a while now. Her birthday is next month, so I grabbed the free pig pattern off the Lion Brand Yarn website, pulled some yarn from the stash, and got to work.

One of the managers at work was excited when she found out that I crocheted. She said that she loved the look of crochet, and that she still had the crochet booties that relatives in the Dominican Republic had made for her sons. Then she said that her birthday and just passed, and I said that Christmas was coming up, too, lol. She likes natural shades of greens and browns, so I picked a nice combination (I think, anyway) and a nice pattern from Red Heart. She doesn't actually know that I'm making something for her, so it'll hopefully be a nice surprise.

A while back, Boy and I started rewatching seasons of Futurama, and I realized how much I actually loved Zoidberg. A strange thing to do, but whatever. With that, I decided I wanted a Zoidberg hat, because all of my winter hats are silly.

More Yule crafting, this time for my MIL. I'm not sure if I'm going to get all the needed crafting done by next week, but I've finished gifts for two people. I took a break from crocheting starting Friday, and I didn't start working on MIL's Yule Gift Blanket until last night.

This afternoon I had it completely done, washed and blocked. Not that it matters a whole lot with acrylic yarn, but the blanket now smells like lavender Dr. Bronner's which is slightly better than the "yarn from under the bed" smell.

I am most pleased with the result:

Because I have an abundance of time and yarn combined with a lack of funds, everyone is getting crocheted Yule gifts this year. So far on my list to make is two pairs of fingerless gloves, a throw, and possibly a shawl (though I'm rethinking the latter). I come from a family of crafters, so I know the gifts would be appreciated.

I made this hat for my husband as he is in desperate need of ear-covering winter wear. I really, really like how it turned out:

Hello everyone! I just wanted to share this little critter I made a couple weeks ago. Someone on one of my LJ communities had posted this cat before. I've had this Sugar'n Cream yarn that I've wanted to make a little marmalade cat out of for months, and this pattern looked perfect for it.
