So I bought three small skeins of yarn for a prayer shawl. Bulky acrylic, variegated blues, fuzzy texture. And then I thought, hm, that doesn't really seem like it's going to be enough yarn; I'll go get some more. And then I got that home and discovered that though it is indeed bulky acrylic, it's variegated blues and blacks, and it's smooth texture, and not the same thing at all. Also, smaller skeins.

So now I have 210yd of the fuzzy blues and 180yd of the smooth blue-blacks, and indeed 210yd is not enough to make a shawl out of. Not even a shawlette, Ravelry assures me. And I'm totally blanking on what I could do that 180yd or 210yd of bulky yarn is enough for.

Help? Thanks.

A hat is usually a safe answer for smaller quantities of yarn? Or you could do a shawl with stripes; t
he different textures could be interesting.

A scarf would work, too. Or try something motif-based, so you could mix it up with different yarns.

One of those nice, narrow short scarves that are intended to tuck into the collar of a coat? One of those button-fastened neck warmers? Or a close-fitting cowl? Or a nice warm hat?

You're welcome!

Seconding a short scarf or cowl. Or some wrist warmers?

How about a möbius shawl/cowl in single crochet? You decide on the circumference, and then just keep going until you run out of yarn -- there is no exact starting point, so no wrong spot to stop.

I don't have a pattern, but there are many many hits using google, including some written and some youtube tutorials.

Doing the central section in one yarn, and then the outer section in the other would allow for a larger shawl/cowl, but as you say they are too similar, that might not work.

So, I don't know if you've decided upon a project yet, but I just finished this shawl, and it's deliberately made with different yarns and it looks amazing. Is it a possibility for you and your yarns?

No worries, hats are always fun and I love doing them. I'm glad you found something for your yarn stash!
