Hello, all. I just joined and thought I'd show you my current project. I'm hoping to finish it up this week or next because I already have my next one (which involves circles and learning) in mind.

Anyhow...

First square
When I was at the craft store looking for the perfect multicolored yarn for this Tetris blanket for [personal profile] vasco_pyjama, what I found was this instead: Lion Brand "Hometown USA" yarn, which is thick and really soft and comes in a dozen or so really rich colors. And I only had to do three rounds to make a pretty big square.

Ten squares
This is where I laid out the width of the blanket and thought o crap, this is gonna be huge! But Fizzy (v_p) was still happy with the idea, so I kept working on it.

Squares 1 Squares 2
Lots and lots and lots and lots (150 altogether, about 111 so far)...

Rows 13, 14, 15 #1
Rows 13, 14, and 15.

With rows 10, 11, and 12 added on...

June 17 - 2
Aww crap, this should be rotated 90 degrees to the left. That's what happens when you have 10 rows at 10 squares per row and think you've got the picture. :P

My husband Chris says I can has naptime nao?

I've added two more rows since then, so now I get to make 35 more squares and put them together, and then take out all the yarn from where I made the strips (because they look uneven on the blanket), and re-stitch those lines so they look better. Fizzy's my best friend so I want it just right. :)

Nice! I love game-inspired designs, and that looks pretty nifty (as well as being a lot of work *G*)

Awesome! I've been wanting to do another granny blanket, so the Tetris idea seems pretty cool. And that must be some seriously thick yarn for the squares to look so solid with a P hook! :p

Out of curiosity, how many skeins did you use? And how did you do the square corners so they don't have holes?

*43*! O_O Good gods, that's a lot of yarn. Must be a low yardage per skein. *ponders*

I had to stop buying yarn for a while, b/c it tends to get pricey when you crochet, going through so much yarn so quick.

Thanks!

Awesomeness! That looks fantastic. I've always been a bit leary of piecing things together. It seems overwhelming somehow. But looking at that and all those bright colors makes me want to try it!

I saw that type of yarn at the store today - it was quite hefty and would, indeed, may an idea throw. Did you use a specific pattern of te tetris block, do did you just make it up? Either ways, it's damn cool! Thanks for sharing the pictures!

What size crochet hook did you use? I really like how thick it turned out. Looks really warm.

And, hurray for Tetris - how that game has infected out lives. I even play it on the supermarket conveyer belt at the check out - LOL!

Wow. I love big projects, but I still probably wouldn't undertake this one on my own; thus I am impressed, and yay Tetris!
