i'd like to crochet a cardigan or jacket for luluisme as my thank you b-day pressie by getting me the Knit Kimono book
sadly, the pattern she chose from Knit Kimono gets called a bathrobe by the knitters, more often than not :/
i'm more confident i'll be able to produce a crocheted bit of gorgeous
here are a few choices, which do ya'll like?
Caron Crochet Lacy Duster
the floor length ness of this one will keep the spirit of the original choice, while not really providing any warmth, just a lot of awesome ~grin~
Erykah
this one is shorter, but much more jacket-y = warm
Tokyo Jacket
so beautiful! completely captures the whole kimono theme. however, the original request was for a full length fall jacket
Zen Jacket
i really like the matching diagonal points for front and back. and that sweet butterfly stitch!
Butterfly Wrap
while the flared sleeves call back the kimono theme, perhaps the very open lace work says goth? which, might just be 'cause the model's wearing wings ~heh~

I love that first long one, too. Unfortunately, I never have any luck with anything that's longer than mid-thigh ---- everything longer I've ever made stretches and keeps on stretching.

tho, i can imagine it only being worn outside, so less chance of knocking over tea cups?
i hear you on the stretch issue. i know there are theories about fiber content wrt stretch. i also wonder if there's a more ... dense stitch that can be used across the shoulders to give support?

The only thing that has ever come close to even begin lessening thar stretch problem for me, regardless of fiber content, in crochet is to work a good portion of the shoulders in single crochet; for either knit or crochet, I have also achieved a little bit of success by sewing shoulder pads in. Unfortunately, both blow the line of the garment --- usually, the long styles are floaty, and these shoulder adjustments give the whole thing an out-of-place rigid epaulet look. All that being said, 100% wool has always given me the least amount of problem.

oh! very clever
i'd totally forgotten the ankle length, heavy wool coat i'd had in college. there was never enough give in the under arms to let me reach the steering wheel
